DaVinci IQ Review Canada
DaVinci Vaporizer has been trailblazing the vaporizer industry in Canada since the launch of their first vapes back in 2012. When DaVinci launched their second vaporizer – the DaVinci Ascent back in 2013/2014, it skyrocketed the DaVinci Vaporizer brand with rave reviews from users and critics alike. Since then, Davinci Vaporizers popularity in Canada has gone mainstream and it’s just cool to have a DaVinci Vaporizer in your pocket these days, especially the DaVinci IQ and the DaVinci MIQRO from DaVinci’s vaporizer collection.
This DaVinci IQ review looks at the pros & cons of this award-winning vaporizer, with specifications, build quality, vapor quality, out-of-the-box, and we will cover some of the DaVinci IQ common problems we experienced. Additionally, The Chronic Beaver’s review and ratings of the DaVinci IQ breaks down the ease of use of the vaporizer and explains the usefulness of the DaVinci Iq App.
- DaVinci IQ Vaporizer – With a removable battery inside (more on that later).
- USB Braided Charging Cable – High-quality that will last a long time.
- Chimney Brush – Stiff, rigid, works great for cleaning out the oven.
- Carry Can – Keychain size with a screw on airtight lid, you can attach your Keychain tool to it.
- Keychain Tool – Great for packing your herbs into the oven, and has a metal all-purpose tool inside (there is 2nd metal tool inside the top of the vape).
- 2 Ceramic ZirconiaMouthpieces – 1st Flat (easier to carry, more discreet to hit while on the go) 2nd Extended (provides more satisfying hits, can be used with a 10mm water pipe adapter for bongs and such).
- Alcohol Wipes – Used for all-purpose cleaning, they are quite effective and cheap to replace
- DaVinci Sticker – Who doesn’t love stickers! This one shows off the DaVinci brand and looks cool.
- DaVinci Direct 10 Year Warranty
- DaVinci IQ Owner’s Manual – A small booklet that’s designed superbly with an easy to follow layout, it will get you vaping your new IQ in no time.
The DaVinci IQ is my #1 go-to portable dry herb vaporizer because of its cool factor high-tech modern design, advanced features (the IQ App for example), and most of all the IQ’s excellent vapor quality.
The zirconia parts of the IQ keep the vapor cool and pure, but the device itself does get a little hot while it’s in use after a while, but not too hot to handle.
The IQ battery doesn’t last long enough for my liking (yup, the Beaver is chronic!), so I would recommend purchasing a backup IQ battery (only $17.30), you’ll need it for when you are on the go.
I also found the IQ vaporizer to be a bit slippery and tends to slip out of your hand when passing it around with your friends. My Davinci MIQRO vaporizer came with a Glove as part of the bundle and I must say that I love it, the IQ Glove ($14.63) is a must have, your IQ vape will love you for it and perform for years on end with the glove protecting it from drops, slips, and bangs.

Those are the only major downsides or problems I found with the IQ vaporizer (more on this topic below), otherwise, it’s all upsides for the IQ vape, which is why the DaVinci IQ is the best premium, portable dry herb vaporizer on the Canadian market.
DaVinci IQ ratings are based on a point system 1 – 100
Each rating category for my DaVinci IQ review is fully explained in the sections below.
I rated the DaVinci IQ vapor quality at 100 points because it quite simply produces consistent, huge dense rips and can be tweaked to operate to your preferences, more on that later.
The IQ heater is quite powerful so it can produce that dense vapor I rave about and does not get overpowered as easy as other conduction vapes when multiple big rips are taken. I also found the IQ to be efficient with my herbs, it produces even Already Vape Buds (AVB) without stirring on normal sessions. If you want to vape it up in a hurry, I recommend using the included stir tool halfway through the session.
One of the reasons the IQ is the best conduction portable vaporizer out today is because of the IQ Flavor Chamber. This is an insert as seen in the picture that sits directly in the vapor path to help deliver smoother and enhanced vapor quality. You can load your herbs in the chamber (use a coarse grind or really small nugs) and the chamber will partially be heated, enough for flavor without cooking. This will also coat the herbs with condensed vapor as it makes it way through the flavor chamber, interesting? You can also load other herbs, like lavender or spearmint into the flavor chamber for enhancing your flavor profiles.
I put the flavor chamber to the test for this DaVinci IQ review and loaded it with some BC herbs, after all, I was interested to see if there was potential to reuse the BC herbs after they were “vapor saturated” if you will. Well, I wasn’t a huge fan, after a while, it started to create resistance inside the chamber and messed with my vaping experience, I love those huge clouds. Also, I removed the nugs from the flavor chamber after about 10 sessions to inspect for the possibility of having transformed super nugs!
The nugs were still green but off green and they smelled off as well, but they seemed to be more sticky. So I rolled them up and had a session by myself to see if my new super nugs were in fact, super! It was interesting, the high did feel like it was more potent and it tasted like I was smoking spent weed a little bit, but it smoked evenly, clean and just as good as any other expertly crafted joint I roll. At the end of the day, loading the flavor chamber with any kind of herbs just isn’t for me, I’ll stick with the empty flavor chamber for maximum vapor potential.
The IQ design makes you feel like you are in the driver’s seat of a Porsche rather than a classic VW. Don’t get me wrong, I love Vdubs for their practical engineering and functional design, but when it comes to vapes, I want cutting-edge performance and sleek style with some serious vapor underneath that pedal. The DaVinci IQ delivers, this high-end modern vape is remarkably well built, compact, and feature-rich. It feels solid in your hand, but almost too solid, as its weight and finish can make it slip out of your hands, so be careful with it and get the IQ Glove.
We did drop the IQ more than a few times while passing it around, especially after 3 or 4 sessions and its durability held up. With a few of the drops, the IQ landed on its bottom hinge on a ceramic floor with no worries, not even a scratch. But if this careless dropping was to continue, I fear the IQ would suffer (it’s not indestructible), It would suck to have one of the hinges break on you that could render the vape useless.
What’s a DaVinci IQ review without explaining how it works and all the features the vape has. Using the IQ is easy, or it can be complicated depending how much of a vapor geek you are. You can simply hit the top right button on the IQ 5 times to turn it on and the IQ automatically goes into the Smart Path mode. The IQ will heat up to the last Smart Path setting you used and will vibrate/buzz when it reaches temp (about 16 to 20 seconds), now a 10-minute session starts and you can start pulling rips, but you won’t get any dense clouds until about 30 seconds. After 10-minutes, the IQ automatically turns off.
If you want to get technical and geek out with your IQ, then this is where the fun starts. You can customize the smart paths to hit your preferred temps via the IQ App, and use precision mode, and boost mode, more on this below.
IQ Smart Path Mode
There are two ways to set your IQ temperatures to achieve your ideal session. You can choose to use the IQ’s Smart Path Mode or Precision Mode. The Smart Path Mode slowly increases the temperature of the unit within a certain temperature range. This can be modified to your own preferences using the IQ App.
These smart paths are pre-programmed to start at a selected temp and gradually increase 20 degrees over the 10-minute session. I prefer the smart path settings 3 and 4 for huge clouds, but if you are more into the flavor, then I recommend smart path settings 1 and 2 for better taste. To select the different smart paths, simply turn on the IQ and it automatically starts in Smart Path Mode, then hit the arrow up and down buttons (on the right side) to toggle the smart path settings 1 to 4.
IQ Smart Path 1 to 4 Pre-Programmed Temperature Settings
Smart Path 1 – Start Temp 350 °F / 177 °C – End Temp 370 °F / 188 °C
Smart Path 2 – Start Temp 370 °F / 188 °C – End Temp 390 °F / 199 °C
Smart Path 3 – Start Temp 390 °F / 199 °C – End Temp 410 °F / 210 °C
Smart Path 4 – Start Temp 410 °F / 210 °C – End Temp 430 °F / 221 °C
Vaporizer Temperature Guide
- 350 °F / 177 °C or Lower = Light mental medication, best flavor
- 350 °F / 177 °C to 390 °F / 199 °C = Moderate body effects, good flavor
- 390 °F / 199 °C and up = Heavy Body Effects, Less Flavor
IQ Precision Mode
You can also use the unit as a standard vaporizer where you set the temperature yourself in Precision mode. This is ideal for people who have already experimented with vapor temperatures and have found their own sweet spot. The precision mode allows you to pick your desired temp and the IQ will maintain it for the entire 10-minute session, you can change up the temps any time. To turn on precision mode hit the top button one time after it’s on to switch it from Smart Path Mode, and then press the up and down buttons to set your desired temp. The 51 light display on the IQ will indicate what temp the vape is at in real time.
IQ Boost Mode
To get an extra dose while hitting the vape you can activate Boost Mode, I use this feature all the time and it works great. To activate, hold down the top button or control button as DaVinci calls it while taking a haul and the boost mode will start to rock, the heater will be engaged full tilt and you will see up arrows on IQ grid display indicating boost mode is activated. The heater will now work its way up to the max temp of 430 °F / 221 °C as long as you continue holding the button, and as soon as you let off, the temp will drop back down to the previous setting.
Loading the Davinci IQ Vaporizer
Loading and cleaning the DaVinci IQ is a simple process. To load the IQ, just swing open the bottom door of the unit to expose the heating chamber and pack it medium tight with your dry herbs using the supplied keychain tool, then swing the door back closed and get vaping. The bottom of the IQ loading area is tapered to facilitate easier loading and less mess, the door also has a removable black nub that packs your herbs just right when you close the bottom door. These small innovations the IQ brings to the table prove to be very useful and makes all the difference in the world when it comes to the ease-of-use of the IQ.
I find that I get the best vaping results with a medium tight and fully packed oven. If you bust up your herbs coarsely you won’t get as much vapor production but there will be less draw resistance, and if you use a fine grind, you will get denser vapor but more draw resistance.
Cleaning the Davinci IQ Vaporizer
The IQ is easy to clean and it can be done quickly. To help keep cleaning and maintenance to a minimum, follow these guidelines:
- Empty out the bowl after each use, and brush or blow out the chamber.
- Clean the flavor chamber most often, just slide it out, and place it into some isopropyl to soak for about an hour, then dry it off.
- The mouthpieces also need to be cleaned frequently, just like the flavor chamber they can be easily removed and placed into some isopropyl.
- I recommend cleaning the ceramic parts about every 10 to 15 sessions.
The DaVinci IQ App is one of the best parts of this vape, it totally enhances the IQ vaping experience for me, the cool factor “gotta have it” kicks in here big time. Although most of the IQ’s features can be accessed directly on the vape itself, the IQ App allows for some extra Smart Path customizations and features.
The App is easy to download, just search for “Davinci” in your App store, and away you go, it’s no different than installing any other App. Once you have the IQ App installed on your mobile device, it connects via Bluetooth which was seamless for me, as it automatically discovered my IQ and hooked me up. I was ready to go and start playing in an instant.
The IQ’s App UX is very user-friendly. The naming conventions used on the buttons make sense, the layout is professional with lots of space for tapping. I also like DaVinci’s flat black reverse orange color scheme being used here, it’s effective and compliments the UX nicely. I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with the Davinci App so far and I think most users who are into this sort of thing will too.
You can control everything using the IQ App:
- Vibration Alerts
- Stealth Mode to dim the LED’s
- Temperature Unit °F or °C
- Get Support
- Precision Temperature
- Switch Between the 4 Smart Paths
The extra customizations and features allow you to:
- Customize the smart paths (temperatures and session times)
- Turn off vibration alerts
- Get device information (total usage time, average session length, average temp and favorite path)
- See the number of times you’ve used each of the smart path choices
Without the IQ App, you won’t have access to the above 4 features, for most, it’s not a biggie, the IQ Vape works just fine without the App, but for me, and for all tech geeks like me out there, it’s a biggie and part of the whole DaVinci IQ vaping experience.
The Davinci IQ includes one replaceable/rechargeable 3500mAh 18650 battery. The IQ battery underperforms in my opinion and there is nothing worse than getting stuck with a dead battery while vaping on the go. I’ve found that a fully charged battery will last for 3 sessions, maybe 4 if you don’t use the higher smart paths and boost mode often. Thankfully there is a simple solution, just pick a second battery cheap from Davinci (only $17.30).
Additionally, the battery charge status display doesn’t seem accurate at times, maybe it’s because I sometimes use a different micro USB cord and bases with different Amp ratings, who knows. Make sure to charge your battery for at least 3 hours regardless if the IQ says that it’s fully charged. Alternatively, you can order a stand-alone charger ($30.66) that charges the IQ batteries quicker and easier.
I recommend buying the IQ directly from Davinci Canada for the best price, perks and for a more personal shopping experience, plus you get more stuff inside the box. You can also get the IQ from other authorized resellers, Namaste Vapes Canada is the best and most reliable choice.
Thanks for reading my Davinci IQ review. As you can tell I’m a big fan of this vaporizer mainly for 3 reasons – the excellent vapor quality, the IQ App, and it’s “cool” factor. The pros outweigh the cons making the IQ my favorite conduction vaporizer. If you are planning on picking up the IQ, it’s a smart choice and you won’t be disappointed.
